“Toxicity” seems to be a jargon word these days in the wellness world. Everyone and their brother seems to be into “cleansing” and there is a booming business in juice cleansing, detox cleansing, and even folks who use the master cleanse, and colonics on a regular basis. But for all this cleansing, are people who do it really healthier? Could it be that folks are doing all of this cleansing are getting duped to doing something that has minor value at best or is damaging their health?

These are questions that I have asked, myself, many times over the years, as I read about and hear the myrid ways that detox and cleansing are being sold. What I have concluded after a bit of research and lots of experience with multiple methods of detox/cleansing, along with a dose of common sense, is that, the lifestyle of the average joe these days includes three types of stressors that act synergistically to degrade the body’s ability to keep itself clean. Let me explain…

The three types of stressors that each one of us deals with on a daily basis are: emotional stressors (such as social pressure, relationships, work stress, financial stress, etc), environmental stress ( noise, pollution in the air, food, water, and electromagnetic waves from electrical lines, screens, phones, etc), and food stress (nutritional deficiency, sugar, fried foods, inflammatory foods, foods containing environmental toxins and so on). Each one of these stressor sources impacts your body’s ability to deal effectively with the other stressors affecting your body and the overall result is overwhelm of your system’s ability to effectively maintain balance or grace under pressure.

Your liver, for example, performs over 200 different functions in your body from filtering your blood to regulating blood fat levels, to creating, storing, and distributing bile to aid in the digestion of fats. What happens to your efficiency level when you are multi tasking and one or more tasks begin to require more of your attention? You don’t perform optimally.
