Are Hidden Infections Causing Your Pain?
by Manny Aragon
Last week on Thursday, my colleagues Glen Depke- Traditional Naturopath, Robert Janda DC, and I gave a presentation illuminating a growing health problem of epidemic proportions. The end result of many of these cases ranges from chronic pain in the joints and or other tissues of the body, chronic fatigue, digestive problems, insomnia, inability to concentrate, headaches, etc. What my colleague, Dr Janda has been finding and treating for many years now is what I call “sub clinical” infections.
These “subclinical infections” are localized invasions of opportunistic pathogens, bacterial, viral, and protozoan, that have taken up residence in the body but are not always detectible by standard lab testing. They can wreak havoc on the body and on day to day existence in general. Whats more, they are persistent. Even with diagnosis and treatment of the individual pathogens, another one often springs up in its absence.
So then, what can the average person do about rooting out and getting rid of the hidden infection problem? In order to find a solution we need to first recognize the root of the problem.
First off, it is important to recognize that the body is never completely free of pathogens- In fact, we were designed to live with a certain concentration of these things in our bodies- and for good reason- they help us become stronger in myrid ways.
For example- the floral (bacterial) balance in our digestive tract is critical to proper digestion and our internal health in general. Bacterial flora help digest food and influence what foods are absorbed into our bloodstream. Additionally, the gut bacteria actually eat some of our food and produce vitamins and other nutrients essential to our overall health. We NEED these bacteria as much as they need us.
The gut bacteria and the integrity of the gut lining are our FIRST LINE of defense against outside pathogenic threats. The gut serves as a similar barrier as the skin and mucous membranes lining the mouth, nose, sinus, throat, and lungs. It keeps bad things out and brings good things in. But only to the extent that its health is intact.
Actually, the overall health and performance of the body is a direct reflection of the overall health and performance of the barrier tissues of the skin, gut, and mucous membranes. In other words- hidden or “sub clinical” infections are a reflection of the immune system and the body’s relative weakness. These are “overgrowths” and opportunistic pathogens that can only flourish in a weakened body.
The body is weak and therefore is sick.
So – what can you do about this? How can you either prevent or resolve the presence of “sub clinical” infection and chronic health challenges in YOUR body?
The simple answer is twofold- 1) Eat foods that nourish your body and give it the tools that it needs to defend and rebuild itself (proper supplementation can really speed this process). 2) Move your body -vigorously-regularly to improve tissue elasticity and improve your metabolic profile- thereby helping make it easier for your body to flush your tissues with oxygen, nutrients, hydration, and rid the cells and tissues of wastes.
This may seem simple enough- and really it is quite simple. The real challenge for most folks is to be able to figure out the most efficient system for their personal success and to actually stick with it.
After reading this article, perhaps some of you will actually have a go at it- to try to eat better and exercise more- but most of you will give up soon enough- your schedule disrupted by vacations, obligations, hell weeks, and other distractions.
A few of you will be determined and focused enough to make it happen- and I want to hear about your successes- just as I want to hear about the failures of those who “fall off of the wagon” so to speak.
For those of you who are determined and want to be successful but are afraid that you may “fall off of the wagon”, I suggest that you consider signing up for my 12 week nutritional success program.
